Another police officer shot dead by suspected robbers
A police officer shot at Kukuom in the Brong-Ahafo Region by suspected robbers has died of his wounds.
The deceased, Corporal Humphrey Lumor, 35, had been sent to the Goaso Government Hospital for treatment but died two days after his admission.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.
He said they had launched a massive manhunt to track down the criminals and bring them to justice.
Corporal Lumor was part of the patrol team that had responded to a distress call following a robbery attack on motorists and travelers using the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Kukuom road.
The robbers had blocked a section of the road at about 2300 hours on June 30 – seizing cash and other valuables from the travelers and the team had been dispatched to bring help to the victims.
ASP Tawiah said the robbers, who had taken cover in the bush along the roadside, on seeing the police, started firing their guns at them.
The deceased took a direct hit in the abdomen and was rushed to the Goaso Hospital.
He appealed to the people to provide useful leads for the arrest of the robbers.
This is the second time within the space of barely one month that a police officer in the region had been gunned down by robbers.
