President Mahama denies calling for new voters register in Togo
President John Dramani Mahama has denied ever calling for a new voters register in Togo as being alleged by some civil society organisations (CSOs) and media houses in the country.
He explained that, when the issue of the credibility of the Togolese voters register came up, as the then Chairman of ECOWAS, he suggested the auditing of the voters register which both the Togolese government and the opposition parties agreed to.
President Mahama was speaking at a rally of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Koforidua at the weekend, to campaign for votes during the primaries of the party scheduled for November 7.
He called on the members of the party to vote massively for him.
The President said government has awarded the contract for the construction of 123 senior high schools, which would create opportunity for 240,000 pupils to have access to secondary education.
The General Secretary of the Party, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia challenged the New Patriotic Party and their sponsored CSOs to stop the media campaign and present their views at the forum that would be organised by the Electoral Commission.
He called for the respect of the principles of democracy and nobody should be allowed to use threats to undermine the democracy of the country and impose the views of the minority on the society.
The National Vice Chairman of the Party, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo announced that, the party’s voters register is ready and would be exhibited at every constituency for the people to make the necessary corrections and after that, it would be printed and made available to every candidate of the party.
Mr Kofi Adams, the National Organiser of the NDC urged Ghanaians not to vote for leaders who could not unite their party.
He said such leaders would end up dividing the country as they have done with their own political party.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the Party, Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, appealed to President Mahama to appoint Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to serve on the Council of State after he had lost the 2016 elections.
