The Hon Minister of Education, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has revealed that the Ghana Education Service is about to seal a deal with Osei Kwame Despite, owner of Peace FM, which will see newsreaders from the station moving to classrooms across the country to teach pupils in the basic schools.

‘We have been working behind the scenes for years, and I’m proud to be finally able to announce that everything is ready,’ the minister said at a press conference last week.

She said that the presenters have been taken through a very rigorous training process, and that all the scientific terms, esoteric jargons, and Latinate lingo that abound in the English language have been painstakingly translated into local languages, and transferred directly into the heads of the teachers via the process of osmosis.

The Education Minister gave a brilliant demonstration: ‘For instance, in science, pupils learn that “photosynthesis occurs when plants transform chlorophyll to energy in the presence of sunlight.” In the new system, pupils will be taught that “photosynthesis yɛ nyame edwuma bi a, ɛyɛ wanwa paa!” You see? It’s very easy.’

She also revealed that students in Accra will be taught in Ga by teachers recruited from Obonu FM, whose motto is: ‘Obonu-ɛ… eegbɛ gedeŋ gedeŋ gedeŋ!’

However, when asked for the exact date this policy will take effect, she puzzled her listeners with the response: ‘Why do you ask me? Go and ask the president! Am I his spokeswoman?’

But at press time, journalists have still not been able to contact the president. Reports reaching our news desk indicate that Stan Dogbe, ferocious and bare-chested, was standing guard at the entrance of the Flagstaff House, putting the fear of God into every journalist who turns up.
