National Youth Authority issues new directive

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has directed all youth-led groups and associations to channel requests for assistance, and appointments to the Presidency through the Youth Authority.

The Authority subsequently wishes to inform the public especially corporate bodies, International Organizations, and non-governmental organizations that in accordance with section 16, sub sections 1 – 5 and 6 of the National Redemption Council Decree (NRDC) 241 of 1974 which established the Authority.

A statement issued by Mr Ras Mubarak, Acting National Coordinator and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday outlined that no youth organization shall engage in any youth activities unless that organization has been registered as such by the Authority.

It said the Authority shall charge in respect of every registration a fee as the Board may determine with prior approval of the Minister.

It stated that notwithstanding the provisions of any enactment any youth organization in existence immediately before the commencement of this decree shall within 30 days after the coming into force of this decree apply to the Authority to be registered.

It said any youth organization which fails to register within 30 days after its formation or if in existence before the coming into force of this decree, fails to register within 30 days.

The statement said after the decree had come into force as shall be proscribed by the Authority and it shall be unlawful for any person to do any act likely to promote the activities and operations of any youth organizations so proscribed.

It noted that any person who acts in contravention to sub-section (4) of this section shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable to summary conviction to a fine not exceeding GH ¢50.00 or to imprisonment not exceeding six months or to both.

It said the Authority however shall proscribe or refuse to register any youth organization whose aims or objectives are contrary to the object of the Authority.

It hereby, advise Youth groups and organizations who are yet to register to do so at all Regional and District offices or the Head office of the Authority.
