Kwahu South Assembly to undertake socio-economic projects
The Kwahu South District Assembly has announced its intention to aggressively tackle the socio-economic development of the area aimed at improving the economic well-being of people.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr Joseph Omari, announced this at an emergency meeting of the assembly at Mpraeso on Friday.
He said some projects earmarked to begin from January 2014 included mechanization of Adensua well at Atibie, completion of mothers’ hostel phase two at the Kwahu Government Hospital, Atibie, cladding of a 3-unit classroom block at Osubeng, rehabilitation of New Oworobong Clinic and spot improvement of Bepong-Ntomen road.
Other projects mentioned by Mr Omari included the construction of the box culvert behind Mpraseso market, construction of footbridge at the Goil Filling Station area at Mpraeso, construction of footbridge on river Asuboni at Mpraeso, rehabilitation of clinic and provision of water facilities at Nkenekyene and construction of Nketepa Market among other projects.
According to the DCE, funds for those projects had been allocated in the 2014 budget statement of the assembly and urged all assembly members to undertake supervisory roles and report any shoddy work the contractors may undertake in the execution of the projects so that the assembly could take appropriate action.
Mr Omari expressed concern about low revenue mobilization and its management in the district and therefore announced that a rigorous collection of property rates and others would soon be tackled.
The DCE mentioned that the Assembly continued to be recognized for modest achievements as a result of the relative peace and unity prevailing in the area; and announced that the Ghana Tourism Authority had conferred the prestigious District Assembly of the Year Award on the Kwahu South District.
Mr Omari added that the district had also won the Africa Prize for Innovation, Integrity, Community and Human Development Category Award, saying all would be received in February, 2014.
He announced that in order to promote tourism potentials in the district, especially during the Easter festivities, discussions were seriously on-going for the expansion of the take-off point at the paragliding site in the district.
