Sekyere township opens new library

A GH¢12,000.00 library has been built at Sekyere in the Sekyere Afram Plains District to help school children in the area to acquire the reading habit.

Yonso Project, a Non Governmental Organisation, provided the funding while the community supported with labour.

The library is stocked with assorted books ranging from mathematics, English Language, sciences, geography to general knowledge.

Mr Kwabena Danso, Country Director of the NGO, inaugurating the library, said this brings to eight the number of community libraries his organization had constructed in the Asante-Mampong Municipality and Sekyere-Afram Plains District within the last five year.

He spoke of plans to set up five community computer libraries and said they were already in touch with Technology Corps, a United States (US)-based information technology (IT) development firm, to make this happen.

Mr Danso said they were determined to do everything to promote education, particularly in the deprived communities by providing the needed facilities to enhance academic work.

Mr Samuel Asiamah, the District Chief Executive, gave the NGO high marks for the initiative saying government would work with all to improve on the quality of the nation’s education.
