TopApps Awards 2012 slated for September 27

The grand finale of the Top Applications dubbed: “TopApps Award 2012”, Ghana’s first application exhibition and award event, has been slated for Thursday September 27, 2012 in Accra.

The Awards on the theme: “Innovations Made in Ghana” was initiated to showcase the innovation of application developers and honour the top innovative and creative ones in Ghana.

A statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) by Mr Maximus Ametorgoh, Managing Director of PopOut, event organisers, said the application industry was a new niche frontier in the software technology space and it was redefining the trends in data consumption as well as the business of technology.

The event to be held at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in Information Communication Technology is an annual exhibition and award event for local application developers.

The objectives of the Awards are to give software developers the opportunity to showcase their works, advertise the applications and software to interested targets, develop a sense of competition among software developers, create the platform for young developers to exhibit their skills and help initiate innovation and creativity in application development.

There are eleven categories of the award including Most Innovative New App, Mobile App, SMS App, Most Innovative New App, Top User Experience App, Entertainment App, Social App, App Developer of the Year, App Company of The Year.

The statement noted a special Recognition Award would be given to individuals and organizations who had contributed to the development of the industry in Ghana.

“The nominees presented the profiles of their apps to a Panel of Judges who has local market insights and global exposure to select the finalists for the highest award category TopApp of the Year,” it added.

It said the judges scored the apps based on their innovativeness, originality, creativity and local/global market value.

There is an ongoing social media public voting in which the public is given the opportunity to vote on Facebook and Twitter which will constitute 30 per cent of the total score to square up the 70 per cent from the Panel of Judges.

The event is in partnership with the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, BusyInternet and Citi 97.3fm with support from Edge Capital, Erke Ghana, Enquesta, Rack Africa, TelecomEye, GhanaBusinessNews, BusinessGhana and BROS GH.
