Trade Ministry seizes 230 pieces of textiles from traders at Takoradi

A task force on textiles established by the Ministry of Trade and Industries, on Thursday seized 230 pieces of pirated and fake wax prints from traders at the Takoradi Central Market.

Mr. John Kwesi Amoah, a member of the Task Force who is also an Assistant Manager of the Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL), led the operation.

He told the press that the seized wax prints would be burnt in line with a United Nations Convention on seized goods.

Mr. Amoah said some of the wax prints were designs of the country’s textile companies while others only bore the brand names of the companies.

He said traders had been sufficiently educated against pirated and fake wax prints and that there was no reason why they should sell them.

Mr. Amoah said the operation was in the interest of consumers and textiles and advised traders selling fake and pirated wax prints to put a stop to it.
