Ghana secures 68m euro for Ada sea defence wall
The Government has secured a 68-million euro facility for the construction of a sea defence wall at Ada to salvage the people in the area from the ravages of the sea.
President John Evans Atta Mills, who announced this when he joined the people of Ada Traditional Area to celebrate their annual Asafotufiam festival last Saturday, said the necessary documentation, was being worked out to ensure that contract for work to begin on the project was awarded, within the shortest practicable time.
The completion of a sea defence wall will solve once and for all, the perennial problems of flooding from the sea which threatens lives, property and vocations of the people of Ada.
In addition to the sea defence wall, President Mills declared the determination of the government to rehabilitate the Songhor Lagoon for the benefit of the people.
He explained that every bottleneck which hindered the fullest utilisation of the lagoon would be dealt with to ensure generation of adequate revenue for the development of the area.
President Mills commended the people for voting massively for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the last general election, and added that the government would take good care of the development needs of the area.
The President said it would be an act of ingratitude on the part of the government to betray the trust and confidence reposed in the party by the electorate.
In apparent reaction to recent criticism levelled against the government by its political opponents over its management of the national economy, President Mills said it would be an atrocious crime and an unpardonable act by the government to turn its back on the electorate who voted massively for the NDC to ensure a quantitative and qualitative improvement in their material conditions.
The Paramount Chief of the area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku, congratulated President Mills on his electoral victory, and added that the people had confidence in his ability to transform their fortunes.
Nene Akuaku thanked President Mills for appointing the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ada, Mr Tettey-Enyo, as the Minister of Education, which he said was a critical sector to the country’s manpower development.
