DCE urges politicians to make realistic promises

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah has appealed to politicians to make promises that are attainable.

He said Ghanaians were discerning and would not vote for a candidate whose promise they find unachievable.

The DCE made the appeal at a durbar to climax the celebration of the annual Akwanbo Festival of the people of Gomoa Brofo.

The DCE’s appeal came after Mr Edwin Abekah Williams, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Gomoa West had urged the people to vote for his Party to make Senior High School education free.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said the people would have believed the NPP candidate more if he had said the Party would ensure that the School Feeding Programme it had introduced would be extended to cover all primary and kindergartens in the country if voted into power in 2012.

The DCE said the Kyiren-Nkwanta to Ajumako Mando road which passes through Gomoa Brofo would soon be awarded on contract.

He said the road, which was being re-gravelled during the first NDC government was stopped by the NPP government when they came to power in 2001 and nothing had since been done about it.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah appealed to the people to ensure that nothing was done before, during and after the upcoming elections to disturb the peace.

Mr Kofi Asmah, Chief Executive Officer of the 21st Century Company Real estate Developers appealed to the people to take the welfare of their children seriously especially the girl child.

He expressed concern about how girls in the town were dropping out of school due to pregnancy.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah also visited Gomoa Asempanyin for their festival and assured them that the Asempanyin-Gomoa Maim road, which had been abandoned for over 40 years, was being reconstructed to shorten movement from Asempanyin area to the market centre at Mankessim.

The DCE enumerated projects, which the area had enjoyed under the NDC administration which included school blocks, toilet facilities and cement for the construction of a community centre.

He appealed to the people to value the peace the nation was enjoying and advised them not to risk their lives for any politician in the upcoming elections.
