Court fines driver for drunk-driving

A Tarkwa Circuit Court, has fined a 30 year-old driver; Joseph Awotwe,  GHȼ600 for consuming unlawful level of alcohol whilst driving.

Awotwe who was sentenced on his own plea would be jailed for six months in hard labour in default.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that at about 17 hours on November 20, Awotwe was spotted driving whilst drunk.

Inspector Tawiah said considering the danger that the accused driver would pose to road users, he was arrested and was sent to the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service local office for thorough examination.

She said when Awotwe was tested on the alcohol meter it recorded 0.272 meters which exceeded the prescribed limit of 0.08 meters.
