Don’t politicize health issues-NHIS Manager

The National Health Insurance Scheme Manager for the Sekondi Sub-Metropolitan area, Mr. Charles Osei Amoako Enti, has urged politicians to desist from politicizing health issues.

He said the continued politicization of health issues could create chaos in the system.

“In fact, the manner the issue of the National Health Insurance Scheme has been politicized in the country does not augur well for an accelerated socio-economic development.” Mr Enti said.

He said the NHIS was functioning efficiently in Sekondi and its surrounding communities, contrary to speculations that the Scheme had collapsed.

He added that the free maternal health care introduced by the previous administration to offer free medical care to pregnant women is still functioning effectively.

Mr Enti said the Sekondi sub-metro scheme registered 4,390 pregnant women last year adding that 11,157 pregnant women had been registered under that policy since its inception in July 2008.

He said a large number of pregnant women had benefited from the programme including their new born babies.

Mr Enti said the scheme registered 11,000 fresh people with the NHIS while 40,000 people renewed their expired NHIS cards.

He said as of September last year, GH¢4,759,922 had been paid to service providers in the metropolis.
