Petitioner: We are extremely satisfied with testimony of Asiedu Nketia
Madam Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, a Spokesperson for the Petitioner in the 2020 Presidential Election Petition has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party was extremely satisfied with the testimony given by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
“In fact, nothing that he has said undermines our case. Indeed, everything he said goes to point to the fact that we are entitled to the declarations that we are seeking,” she said.
Madam Appiah-Oppong addressing the media in the post-trial interview said the video the other parties sought to rely on to discredit the General Secretary of the Party did not happen as they thought to do.
The Supreme Court on Monday played a video, the lead Counsel for the Second Respondent (President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo) sought leave of the court to show.
In that video, the Counsel sought to discredit Mr Nketia, a witness for the petitioner, who in various press conferences purported told the world that the Petitioner John Dramani Mahama had won the 2020 presidential election.
But at the last adjourn date the witness denied during cross examination that he had through various press conferences declared Mr. Mahama as the winner of Elections 2020.
The Spokesperson said in the end, his credibility rather soured; “If you watch the video, it is clear that he never said at any point in time that the petitioner had won the election”.
She said in fact, what he did were projections and rightly so, he stated that based on the 141 Parliamentary seats that they had won, the projections were that they would win the Presidential as well.
Madam Appiah-Oppong said the Respondents were unable to show from the video that the witness, said what it was that they were trying to prove, so they flopped in that regard.
She said the other thing that came out clearly was that they were ever-changing figures from the witness’ testimony.
She said from their own cross-examination, they described this ever-changing figures as manifestly erroneous.
“The December 9, 2020 declaration figures of 13,434,574, December 10, 2020 declaration figure of 13,119, 460, then in their paragraph 24 of the First Respondent’s (Electoral Commission), Chairperson’s answer, Ms Jean Mensa talked about 13,121,111.
She said yet again in Court, there were corrections made and “we saw that from the cross examination on Techiman South and the face of that their own exhibit it showed 97,227 but when they did the collation it was 99,436.”
On vote padding, she said it could be deduced from the cross-examination that he admitted that there was padding but what they tried to portray was that on the pen drive there was an indication of padding in favour of both parties.
“Now, if they admit that there is padding, then, obviously, we are dealing with a very flawed election. That is the point and we admit it, it is a clear admission of a flawed election and we also made the point that what we attached in terms of padding were only samples,” she said.
Mr Nketia has since completed his evidence and had been cross-examined and discharged.
