CCML launches 2013 Christian Community Music awards

The Christian Community Microfinance Limited (CCML), a division of the Christian Council of Ghana, has launched the 2013 Christian Community Music Awards (CCMA).

Nominations has, therefore, been opened to the general public to vote for the candidates of their choice from now until May 16, to be followed by the awards ceremony in Accra on May 18, 2013, at the National Theatre.

Mr Kojo Oppong Adjei, Communication Director of CCML, who performed the launching ceremony at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, said CCML decided to take the radio contest to a higher pedestal in order to give it a wider coverage.

He said Ghanaian gospel musicians, over the years, had been performing very well so they deserved to be acknowledged.

Mr Adjei said the overall award winner’s price would be invested in treasury bills over the next five years to generate more income for the person.

Miss Jennifer Jessica Danquah, CCMA Events Coordinator, said the awards ceremony, titled: “The Most Wanted,” would be on the theme: “Creatable Impacting Levels”.

She said: “The Most Wanted contest seeks to showcase and reward deserving songs and their artistes by promoting all gospel music,” adding; “in Ghana, seven out of every 10 songs sold were gospel songs, but unfortunately they were not celebrated as they ought to”.

Ms Danquah said the 2013 Awards would reward Christian songs from 10 categories; namely praises, worship, inspirational, Christian reggae song, hymns and chorals, among others.

She said songs nominated for the awards would be published in the Daily Graphic and also played on some selected radio stations such as Spring, Sweet Melody and Sunny FM during the late afternoon shows.

Ms Danquah said readers and listeners could then make their choice by texting to short code 1903 or visit their website: www.ccmagh.com to vote.

She said the final decision would be based on 50 percent for texting and the rest from the decision of the judges on the contest day.

Ms Danquah said aside giving awards to the overall winner and winners from the various categories, the highest texter would also be rewarded.

She said listeners would have the opportunity to interact with nominees and sponsors on the airwaves and  appealed to the general public to take part in the event to ensure that their favourite artiste won the contest.

Ms Danquah said artistes who would be performing at the awards night would include the 2012 CCMA Award Winner and the Legon Choral Group among others.
