Winneba Gov’t Hospital improves health delivery in 2012
The Winneba Municipal Hospital saw much improvement in its performance in 2012 than in the previous year, the Administrator of the facility, Mr Hayford Frempong has said.
Speaking at the 2012 Annual Performance Reviewed meeting of the Hospital at Winneba on Friday, Mr Frempong said out-patients to the hospital increased from a total of 16,726 in 2011 to 21,521 in 2012 while total admissions moved from 6,125 in 2011 to 6,926.
He said total major operations performed on patients jumped from 754 in 2011 to 1,152 in the year under review, adding minor operations were 1,290 in 2012 as against 399 in 2011.
The Administrator said the facility made a total of 6,641 discharges in 2012 and 5,878 in 2011 while total laboratory investigation increased from 75,911 in 2011 to 93,370 in 2012.
He said eye cases seen at the hospital increased from 22 in 2011 to 1,007 in 2012, adding that still birth cases reduced from 67 in 2011 to 33 in 2012.
Mr Frempong said the Hospital had constructed a walkway, installed equipment including autoclave and fridges in consulting rooms and a placenta pit with part of its Internally Generated Fund.
He mentioned high infant mortality rate, lack of stationed ambulance, frequent breakdown of PHIS Systems and non-functioning of intercom facility as some of the challenges identified at the beginning of the year 2012.
Dr Luiz Gohungo Ammussu, Effutu Municipal Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, commended both medical and paramedical staff of the hospital, led by Dr George Prah, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital for the achievement.
Mr John Kofi Kussachin, Effutu Municipal Coordinating Director, who deputized for Nii Ephraim, Chief Executive for the area, urged the management of the hospital to feed the Assembly with their annual plans for it (Assembly) to incorporate them in its Action Plan.
He said the Assembly was constructing chip zone centers in some communities in the Municipality and on completion they would be handed over to the Health Directorate.
