Group wants Peter Amewu as MP of Hohoe

A group calling itself, “Volunteers for JP 2020” in the Hohoe constituency of the Volta region want Mr. John Peter Amewu, Minister for Energy to represent the constituency in Parliament.

The group said though previous members of Parliament for the area had contributed in diverse ways to the development of the constituency, a “more competent and dynamic personality” was needed to bring radical development to Hohoe.

Mr. George Dogbey, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the group at a press conference in Hohoe, said the sharp political division in the constituency between the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party had done a lot of harm to the people than good.

He said the divisions had triggered disenchantment and polarisation within the constituency. It said the situation has affected rapid socio-economic development of the area and needed to change.

Mr. Dogbey said the group’s main aim is to “come together to bridge the divide and fight for the overall good of our constituency.”

He said the commitment of Mr. Amewu to the Hohoe Constituency in education, sports development, job creation among others as a Minister of State and a former Municipal Chief Executive was unmatched and needed to be given the opportunity, to represent the constituency in Parliament.

Mr. Dogbey said if politics was about development and what social amenities an individual could engineer, then Mr. Amewu had no competitor.

He therefore appealed to the constituents to support and accept Mr. Amewu, as a development agent, a visionary and a unifier to represent them.

Mr. Amewu who made an unsuccessful bid for the parliamentary seat in 2004 is yet to make any public pronouncement on the subject, however, there are indications, he may contest for the position.
