Herbalist granted GH₵ 30,000.00 bail over fake currency

A Cape Coast Circuit Court on Tuesday granted bail to a 24-year-old Herbalist in the sum of GH₵ 30,000.00 with two sureties to be justified for allegedly possessing fake currency.

Isaac Mensah, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possessing fake currency and would re- appear in Court on Tuesday, April 02, 2019.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Iddrisu Yakubu told the Court Presided over by Mrs Dorenda Smith Arthur that, the complainant Evans Boakye who is a mobile money Merchant who lives at Brimso-Apewosika, while the accused is a herbalist at Ankaful near Cape Coast.

The Prosecutor said on Tuesday, March 12, Mensah used GH₵ 500.00 fake Ghanaian notes to pay one Emmanuel Akunnor as service rendered and he went to Mr Boakye’s shop to pay the money into his personal mobile money account.

However, Mr Boakye detected that the money was fake and arrested Akunnor and handed him over to the police together with the fake notes and during investigations Akunnor mentioned Mensah as the one who used the money to pay him his debt.

Mensah was arrested and he confessed paying Akunnor with the money to defray his indebtedness to him and when his room was later searched a human skull was found of which he again claimed ownership, but could not tell what he was doing with it.

Mensah was therefore charged with the offence while the forged currency was forwarded to Bank of Ghana for examination.
