Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources has assured the authorities of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) that the Ministry will support the development of the company.

She, however, urged the board, management and the workers of the GWCL to position themselves to ensure that they sustain the gains so far achieved in the water sector.

Madam Dapaah gave the assurance when the board members and management of the company led by the Board Chairman, Mr Afenyo Markins paid a courtesy call on her at the Ministry on Tuesday.

The visit was to explore ways of deepening collaboration among the stakeholders to ensure effective management in the water sector while focusing on how to deliver potable water to the citizenry.

Madam Dapaah said the government has taken pragmatic measures to prevent water pollution and environmental degradation which is posing as a threat to human survival.

She said the Ministry would continue to partner with major stakeholders in the water sector to help in the growth of the company’s operations.

Mr Markins said non-payment of water bills by some state institutions and individuals are seriously affecting the operations of the company and that the workers have been urged to show loyalty by ensuring that the bills are collected.

He said illegal connections are also causing a loss to the GWCL and that the Board is committed to fighting the situation by causing the arrest of perpetrators to increase revenue to support the company.

Mrs Serena Kwakye Mintah, a representative of the workers on the GWCL Board gave the assurance that the workers would do their best to confront the illegal water connection in the system while ensuring effective collection of bills to increase revenue.
