Bole Dam needs urgent attention – group

Constituency Watch in the Bole District, a youth group based in the newly created Savanna Region, has appealed to government to help reconstruct the Bole Dam (Pumpi-gbon) to help avert harm to lives and properties.

They made the appeal following a heavy downpour in the district last week Saturday, February 02, 2019, which resulted in the deaths of three people from Kabilma, a community in the district.

A statement copied the Ghana News Agency and signed by Mr Abdul Haruna Obey, President of the group, said the damaged dam poised imminent danger to lives and properties.

It said the recent deaths was as a result of people in a tricycle seeking to cross a washed-off bridge over a river called “Yokanba” situated between Dakurpe and Kabilma but drowned in the process.

The statement said rising waters from the Bole Dam has threatened to overflow its banks and more than 100 people in the Balipe, Korupe, Zangepe and Mempeasem communities of Bole would also be at risk if nothing is done to the affected areas.

It said the incident is a frightening reminder of the growing risk facing the Bole Township.

The statement said the Bole District Assembly approved a budgetary allocation worth GHC 150,000.00 for the re- construction of the said dam in November last year but work is yet to begin.

It called on Madam Veronica Alele, District Chief Executive for Bole, to award the contract on time to avoid any further calamities.

The statement said the group has threatened to hit the streets if work on the dam is began by the end of February, 2019.

Mr Suley Npabo, Assembly Member of the Choribang Electoral Area, told the GNA in an interview that the Assembly approved a budget for the reconstruction from the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund but nothing had been done about it.

Madam Veronica Alele, DCE for the area, said she would work harder to seek funding for the project.
