Five injured as car ploughs into pedestrians in Berlin

A motorist ploughed into a group of pedestrians in the German capital early on Saturday.

Five people were injured, at least three of them seriously, according to the fire brigade. All were taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver was not drunk, a police spokeswoman said. There was also no evidence that the man was under the influence of drugs or prescription medicine. A blood sample had been taken.

The cause of the accident remains unclear, and investigations are under way, the spokeswoman said.

Nothing indicates that the incident was an attack, she said.
