Vice President Bawumia

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, has said government’s flagship programmes being implemented would significantly improve conditions in zongo communities.

He said the establishment of the Ministry for Inner City and Zongo Development demonstrated government’s commitment to bring real development to zongo communities.

The Vice President was addressing the chiefs and people of Offinso Zongo in the Offinso Municipality as part of his nationwide tour of Muslim communities to commemorate this year’s Ramadan fasting.

Dr Bawumia, who was accompanied by the sector minister, Boniface Abubakar Sidique, said an amount of GH¢ 100 million has been earmarked this year for the Zongo Development Fund to accelerate the development of zongo communities.

About three thousand Arabic instructors have also been engaged under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to teach in various Islamic schools across the country.

He said last year’s hajj charge rates would be maintained to enable more Muslims to participate in the annual pilgrimage.

He entreated Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan to pray for the President and his government as they pursued pragmatic programmes and policies to transform the country.

Dr Bawumia said government was on course to deliver its campaign promises, adding that the nation would continue to flourish under the leadership of President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo.

He said the free Senior High School Policy, restoration of teachers and nurses allowance, Planting for Food and Jobs, reduction in electricity tariffs, Nation Builders Corp and the Zongo Development Fund, were some of the achievements of government.

He said other policies such as the one district one factory, one village one dam would be fulfilled to create more jobs for the teeming youth.

He said Ghana’s economy had seen significant improvement since the NPP took over power and urged the people to keep faith with the government as it worked hard to reduce the cost of living.

The Vice President presented 10 bags of rice, 10 bags of sugar, 10 cartons of milk, 10 boxes of Lipton tea and some cash to the community to support them in their month long fasting.
