Ghana Black Chariots set for disability sports in Canada

Ghana’s Wheelchair Basketball team, the Black Chariots are set to participate in an invitational championship in Canada.

The championship is scheduled to take place from April 27-29 April, 2018,  at Centre Sportif du College Eduoard-Montpetit, Longueuil in Canada.

Ghana is the only African country invited for the competition, which is being organized by Defi Sportif AlterGo.

In all, 6000 athletes drawn from 15 countries would participate in 14 sporting activities present.

In an interview with GNA Sports, Mr Wilson Agbesi, General Secretary of Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation (GWF) noted that the Black Chariots have been invited to take part in the biggest disability sports championship in Canada.

Mr Agbesi said, the federation has already paid the registration fee of participants in other not to miss the golden opportunity offered to the team to exhibit their talent.

He called on corporate bodies to help the team with support to ensure their participation.

“We have settled one aspect of the obligation for us not to miss this great tournament, now the federation is doing its best to take care of other financial cost.

“It doesn’t come easy, hence we are calling on corporate bodies, individuals and other organizations to come on board to support us, which would help us pay other expenses that comes along with our trip”.

According to Mr Agbesi, the invitation came as a result of Canada’s confidence in Ghana’s determination of developing disability sports, especially wheelchair basketball.

“The Black Chariots participation is going to be great opportunity for Ghana, the federation and the players because the flag of Ghana would be raised high by our disable sports men in a field of wheelchair basketball as Ghana is the only African country invited”.

The Black Chariots would start residential camping from 1st-18th April, 2018 before leaving for Canada by 20th April, 2018.
