Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly establishes Sister-City Unit 

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has established a Sister-City Relations Unit as part of efforts to strengthen relationships with some cities abroad and promote effective partnerships and sustainable collaboration for development.

The move is not only to concretize existing relationships with sister cities but to also create new friendships with progressive cities across the world in order promote socio-economic development.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, KMA Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency that, the relationship would also ensure social cooperation and collaboration among sister cities.

He said a seven-member committee was being formed to manage those partnerships in the area of environmental management, agricultural development and housing re-generation.

Other areas to be tackled are youth and social development, construction of car parks and climate change management.       

Mr. Assibey-Antwi said the assembly had already written official letters to ten new cities inviting them for partnerships.

Among them are, Anyang-China, Dortmund in Germany, Pretoria and Tshwane, all in South Africa, Vicenza, Milan, Bergamo and Verona, all in Italy, as well as Moscow in Russia.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive said so far, the city of Dortmund had confirmed receipt of their proposal, and that, the Assembly was looking forward to working with the authourities.
