Railway development would transform Ghana’s economy – Chief

Nana Adu Gyamfi, Adontenhene of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, has observed that railway development would transform Ghana’s economy since it would improve business activities in other sectors of national economy.

He said the creation of the Ministry of Railway Development was one of the most important institutions created by the Nana Akufo-Addo led Administration.

He said creation of the Ministry was transformational in the truest sense of nation building.

Nana Adu Gyamfi said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

He said the success of the New Patriotic Party government would partly depend on the performance of the railway sector.

He said, there was the need to have a ‘rail sense’ to change the fortunes of the country.

The Chief believed that the government had the capabilities to restore the railway sector to its former glory and transform the national economy.

“All over the world, countries that have developed have had their transportation system put in place to ensure the smooth running of their economies,” he stated.

He said: “No country has achieved real development without the role of the rail sector. America, Russia, China, you name them, it is the rail transport, which has strengthened their economy.”

Nana Adu Gyamfi said government’s intention to extend the rail lines to Paga would ensure Ghana strengthened her trade relations with the neighbouring countries.

The Chief called for injection of capital into the railway sector to breathe new life and ensure accelerated development.

Nana Adu Gyamfi expressed confidence in the sector Minister Mr Joe Ghartey and encouraged him to give off his best to transform the railway sector.
