Police won’t shield any suspect in lynching of soldier – Minister
Mr Kwamena Duncan, Central Regional Minister, has said the Police would not not shield any suspect involved in the gruesome lynching of the army captain at Denkyira -Boasi in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
Currently, five persons have been arrested in connection with the act and four are being detained in Police custody at Cape Coast.
They are Kofi Nyame, 29, Kofi Badu, 45, Bismark Donkor, 30 and Philip Badu,30 with the fifth suspect receiving treatment for sustaining gunshot wounds.
The Police had debunked reports circulating that the Assembly member for the area who is said to have led the mob to lynch Captain Mahama had been arrested.
Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama was on Monday lynched and burnt by residents of Denkyira-Boasi who mistook him for an armed robber.
In an intewrview with the GNA at the Cape Coast Metro Police Station, where the suspects had been detained, Mr Duncan said investigations were far advanced and the suspects would be put before the law court within the stipulated 48 hour time frame.
Mr Duncan who is the head of the Central Regional Security Council was at the station to have first-hand information on the suspects.
He was accompanied by the Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP) Nenyi Ampah -Bennin and a team of investigators.
Mr Duncan assured Ghanaians that the Police would follow the matter to a logical conclussion and ensure that all those involved were apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.
He said the dastardly act was completely unacceptable and must be condemned by all because the country’s culture frowned on it.
“We will get to the bottom of this matter, we will apprehend all those who are involved in this and allow the law to take its full course”, He said.
The Regional Minister expressed the optimism that the Police would do thorough investigations to put forward a clear case at the law court for justice to prevail.
He called for calm and assured the people of the area that no one’s rights would be infringed upon in the process of investigating to bring the perpetrators to book.
Mr Duncan however, commended the Military men on the ground for exhibiting high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties during the incident.
