Newmont Mining is tops again on Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

NewmontGlobal mining company, Denver-based Newmont Mining Corporation has been ranked as the mining industry’s overall leader in sustainability on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the second year in a row.

The DJSI World tracks the performance of 2,500 leading companies worldwide, independently evaluating their long-term economic, environmental and social performance. The top 10 percent of performers are selected from among each industry group.

According to Dow Jones, in addition to being ranked the overall industry leader in the mining sector, Newmont received the highest score (100th percentile) in a number of areas including Occupational Health and Safety, Risk and Crisis Management; Climate Strategy; Environmental Policy and Management Systems; Water-related Risks; Asset Closure Management; and Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy.

Included in the Index for the 10th time, Newmont was the first gold company named to the Index in 2007, and has been included on the DJSI North America Index every year since 2006.

Newmont Gold Ghana, is a subsidiary of Newmont Mining Corporation with operations at the Ahafo mine in the Brong-Ahafo region and the Akyem operation in the Eastern region near New Abirem.

Newmont began operations in Ghana with the acquisition of Normandy Mining in 2002. Production commenced in 2006 at the Ahafo mine and the Akyem mine started operations in 2013.
