We are not considering banning WhatsApp, Viber, Skype calls – NCA

WhatsAppThe National Communications Authority (NCA) has denied media speculations that the organization is considering proposals to ban Whatsapp, Skype and Viber calls.

A statement from the Authority copied to the Ghana News Agency said the press statement it issued pertaining to the use of Whatsapp, Skype and Viber call was meant to inform and encourage discussions and not to serve as a notice for a possible ban.

“It is the wish of the Authority that media houses seek clarifications from the Authority and together develop the industry for the benefit of our valued consumers”, it said.

The statement said to this end, the NCA, under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications, would organize a Digital Family Forum as part of this year’s World Telecom and Information Society Day to educate Ghanaians on the above mentioned subject.

“The forum, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 17th May, 2016, at the Accra International Conference Centre, would focus on two (2) key issues; National Roaming and the OTT Services.

The NCA would therefore want to invite all interested parties to the forum where views and perspectives will be sought from all stakeholders on these very important issues.
