A Police Constable Francis Osei Amankwaa, aged 31, has been gruesomely murdered by highway armed robbers at Ahoshenso along Wassa Ankwaso/Wassa Juaso road in the Bibiani/Anhwiaso/Bekwai District of the Western Region.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Isaac Alex Quainoo, the Regional Police Commander, disclosed this at the Annual West Africa Security Services Activity (WASSA) held in Sekondi.
The deceased was stationed at Wassa Juaso but he was assigned for an official duty at Ahoshenso on Wednesday, March 16.
However, when he was returning home after close of work around 2200 hrs on board a taxi, he bumped into a gang of armed robbers who had stopped many vehicles on the road and were robbing passengers of their possessions.
Therefore, upon seeing the policeman, the robbers became alarmed, rushed on him and stabbed him several times with a knife before shooting him with a gun and fled from the scene.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital morgue pending autopsy while the Police Command had launched investigations into the tragic incident.
The Regional Police Commander ordered the gathering to observe a minute’s silence in honour of the former Eastern Regional Police Commander DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni, who died on Monday, March 14, at the Police Hospital in Accra and Constable Francis Amankwaa.
