CSM kills three in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District

Steth3Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) has hit the Sawla/Tuna/Kalba District of the Northern Region killing three people and affecting 30 others.

Alhaji Mumuni Isaac Dramani, District Chief Executive for Sawla/Tuna/Kalba, who announced this during the Independence Day anniversary celebration at Sawla, said “though the cases are rising there is no cause for alarm as the health authorities are on top of the issue”.

Alhaji Dramani urged health authorities in the district to embark on public education campaigns on the disease across the district to prevent its further spread.

He said there is the need for all to take health information on the disease very seriously so as not to fall victim to the disease.

Alhaji Dramani also spoke about education in the district saying it (district) was making the needed efforts to address the teacher shortfall in the district.

He said about 100 national service personnel were also posted to the district to be deployed to various schools adding that “the District Assembly again supported the District Directorate of Education to recruit one hundred (100) volunteer teachers to fill in the teacher deficit gaps in schools”.

He said government has also provided eight motorbikes to be given to circuit supervisors in the district to help improve supervision in schools in the district.

Mr Dramani said “as an Assembly, we are working towards a diversified and commercially oriented agricultural sector, with strong linkages with processing and market oriented sectors to create jobs for our youth”.
