USAID donates vehicles to Northern Regional Coordinating Council

USAIDThe US Agency for International Development (USAID) has donated 12 Nissan pickup vehicles to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) in Tamale, a press release from the US Embassy in Accra copied to ghanabusinessnews.com has said.

The vehicles were distributed on January 8, 2016, to nine Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and three regional departments in the Northern Region of Ghana, to improve service delivery to their citizens”, according to a statement by the American Embassy in Accra.

The Tamale Metropolitan, Savelugu, Central Gonja, Saboba, East Mamprusi, Nanumba North, Nanumba South, Tolon, and West Gonja MMDAs were said to have received a vehicle each, while the Northern Region Health Directorate, Northern Region Environmental Health Unit, and the Northern Region Department of Social Welfare also received a vehicle each.

According to the Embassy, the handover of the vehicles was made possible by the $60 million USAID Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) project.

The RING project, which is part of the U.S. government’s Feed the Future and Global Health Initiatives, works to improve the livelihoods and nutrition of the most high-risk households in the Northern Region, with an emphasis on women of child-bearing age and children under five.

RING’s main goals are to achieve a 20 percent decrease in stunting of children under five years old and to double the incomes of targeted vulnerable households in the North.

The project partners with the Government of Ghana to achieve its goals, and directly supports the Northen Regional Coordinating Council and 17 MMDAs.
