Mr Yaw Boahen-Kwarteng, Chief Revenue Officer, Ghana Revenue Authority, (GRA), Mataheko Small Tax Office, has called on businesses to re-register as taxpayers to enable the Authority capture credible data to enhance revenue administration.
Under the new automated systems being implemented for GRA and Registrar General’s Department, taxpayers at the GRA Domestic Tax Revenue Division offices and Value Added Tax Offices must re-register to facilitate the use of the new software systems.
Mr Boahen-Kwarteng was speaking at a day’s tax education forum organised by the GRA for stakeholders in Accra on Wednesday.
He said there are so many benefits taxpayers get when they re-register, including issuance of new TIN numbers, while it eliminates and prevent multiple registration.
He said the re-registration is also to ensure a transparent process of tax administration for national development.
On filing of tax returns, he said it is mandatory for all taxpayers and helps to broaden the tax net.
He urged taxpayers to pay their tax on time to avoid attraction of various degrees of penalties from the Authority.
Mr John Jones Tsinasi, Senior Revenue Officer, GRA, Mataheko Small Tax Office, called on business owners to endeavour to keep records of their operations.
He said there are regulatory compliance concerning record keeping and business owners should take notice and abide accordingly.
“Unfortunately, business owners do not attach any importance to record keeping in this country,” he added.
