Asante Kotoko sinks into relegation zone

KotokoDefending champions, Asante Kotoko, put up a splendid late performance to force visiting Medeama to a 1-1 drawn game in a First Capital Plus Premier League fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.

Medeama, displaying tactical discipline, looked like carrying the day until Ivorian import, Ahmed Toure, stunned them with a well-taken header to restore parity for the Porcupine Warriors in the 80th minute.

The result has sunk Kotoko to the relegation zone, and the disappointing expression on the faces of the players and supporters summed up the frustration in their camp.

A determined Medeama took control of the game in the first half, pinning down Kotoko to their half, and with series of incursions, the visitors kept the goal area of the homers boiling with action.

The lack of precision upfront would deny the visitors from scoring and with the Porcupine Warriors failing to glitter, the first half ended barren.

Medeama continued with the pattern of the game as they came from recess, and in the 58th minute, Benjamin Bature shot his side into the lead, but Kotoko  re-organized and improved their play to equalise with 10 minutes to end the match.
