Medical reports sent to the Kaneshie District Court, presided over by Mrs Adwoa Akyaamaa Ofosu, hearing the case involving Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, a.k.a KKD, has recommended that the accused person needed to visit a clinical psychologist.

Ms Suzana Nyarko, who held the brief for Tony Forson, the counsel for the accused person, told the court that KKD visited the hospital for his review session yesterday and it was recommended he sees a psychologist today.

She said there was further recommendation that the accused person be given a week bed rest.

All these were contained in the medical report and a letter addressed to the court to further explain the condition of the accused person.

Mrs Cynthia Lamptey, the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, confirmed receiving the medical report but said the state was not aware of the further explanation concerning the health of the accused person.

This was the second time the accused had been absent in court, forcing the court to adjourn the matter at the instance of the defense counsel on excuse of ill health.

The court was to end the committal process at the District Court to enable trial to begin at the High Court. However, the accused was absent at today’s sitting.

He is being held for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman, an offence he has denied.

A human rights court in Accra has granted him bail on humanitarian grounds in the sum of GH₵ 20, 000.00 with two sureties.

The court granted the bail because counsel for the accused person filed supplementary affidavits on January 6 and another affidavits on January 8, 2015 supported by a medical report.

The Airport Police arrested KKD on December 27, 2014 after the 19-year-old accused him of raping her in a hotel washroom.

The case has been adjourned to February 18.
