Include cancer treatment in National Health Insurance – Foundation

CancerThe Dr Robert Mitchell Memorial Foundation has appealed to government to include the treatment of childhood cancer in the National Health Insurance Scheme.

A statement issued by the Foundation in commemoration of the International Childhood Cancer day, which falls on February 15, said the cost of treatment was very high that it denied patients who could not afford access to curative therapy as well as supportive care.

The statement signed by Mr Archibald Donkor Executive Secretary of the Foundation noted that the fight against childhood cancer was daunting and required stronger inter-connected network since the individual effort would not yield the desired results.

“As Ghanaians, the celebration of the day will be remarkable and relevant when we are able to scale up our commitment and put smiles back on the faces of childhood cancer patients and their families”.

It called on corporate bodies and financial multinational companies to support children with cancer as part of their social corporate responsibility.
