A lecturer at the College of Technology Education, University of Education, Winneba, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to make sure that President John Dramani Mahama is handed the party’s 2016 presidential ticket without a contest.

Mr. Yarhands Dissou Arthur said, this was important to maintain rock solid front and avoid needless distractions ahead of the polls.

He noted that it would be politically unwise and disadvantageous for any member of the party to run against the sitting President, if the NDC was really serious about winning the coming elections.

In a press statement issued on Monday, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, Mr. Arthur said, although any member of the NDC of good standing could put themselves up for the presidential primary, this right should be weighed against the overall interest and the party’s electoral fortunes.

President Mahama, he said, is their best bet and that there should be no motivation or appetite for anybody to attempt to stir any confusion and create cracks.

He urged the leadership to concentrate on the training of the party’s polling agents, and strengthening of the internal structures for effective electioneering campaign to win over more voters.
