Former French captain, Marcel Desailly has been  honuored with a bronze sculpture by a UK-based company, Images & Likeness.

The initiative was to recognize the outstanding performances of Desailly and the impact he has had on the lives of children in his numerous roles as an ambassador.

Dr Gerry Waldron, the sculptor of the statue, explained that, “The decision to honour the Ghanaian-born French star is to reflect on his personality and uniqueness, celebrate the difference in him and what he has achieved, his contribution to his community and country”.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga commended the success chalked by the former AC Milan and Chelsea star at the event to unveil the sculpture at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra.

He said that, “This is someone yearning to give back to his society. We live in a society where when somebody does something and succeeds, he hides it and does not give the opportunity to others to learn from him.

“But Desailly is someone who through hard work has been able to rise to greatness and gives the next generation the opportunity to achieve their targets with the needed facilities”.

The former Chelsea captain urged athletes to invest, educate themselves in their respective careers and raise the profile of Africans as an example for the younger generation.
