Tullow supports Nzema-East

tullowTullow Ghana,one of the partners in the jubilee field says it has offered numerous assistance towards the development of the Nzema-East Municipality.

This forms part of its corporate social responsibility to communities within the oil and gas enclave and also in fulfillment of the local content policy.

It has therefore advised people in the catchment areas to put in proposals and solicit for the company’s assistance in their developmental needs.

Community Representative of the Social Investment Department of Tullow in the area,Madam Anne Marie disclosed this during a meeting at Axim.

She said as part of measures to mitigate oil and gas spillage in the area,Tullow had trained 250 people to forestall any contingencies in the industry.

Under its LEED project, the company also trained 150 fisher folks in business management to enhance their livelihood.

Forty people were trained in communities such as Apewosika, Lower and Upper Axim.

The Assembly also took delivery of 600 plastic chairs and distribution of 250 solar lamps to the communities.

Madam Marie said 10 students from the Western Region were awarded scholarships to pursue a master’s degree programme every year.

She said the company planned to put up a dormitory for the Axim Girls Second Cycle school this year and would donate more solar lamps to other schools in the area.

Madam Marie said the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Mr James Atta-Kakra Baidoe placed a request for the construction of a borehole at Asanda and would soon see the light of day.

She said it was the intention of the Tullow to re-position businesses in the area in the Enterprises Development Company (EDC).

In an open forum, some Assembly Members advised Tullow to establish marketing linkages in the area and embark upon needs assessment to engage communities on their pressing needs for assistance.

Mr Baidoe lauded Tullow for its development interventions in the area and pledged that government would continue to partner the company to fulfill its mandate.
