Akatsi-North will be good sanitation reference point – DCE

The Akatsi-North District could soon become a reference point for good sanitation management, James Gunu, District Chief Executive (DCE) said in Ave-Dakpa on Friday.

He was addressing scores of Zoomlion, Ghana Limited staff gathered at the local Pentecost Church for what was dubbed End-of-Year Praise and Thanks-giving Service.

Mr Gunu said the infant district had mapped out strategies to tackle all manner of waste before it overwhelmed the authorities.

He said in that direction a plastic waste recycling facility would be put up at Ave-Dakpa by Zoomlion Ghana Limited and some foreign partners.

Mr Gunu said the plastic recycling plant would turn sanitation challenges into opportunities, lauding Zoomlion for its leadership role in sanitation management in the country.

Akulley Seidu, Akatsi-North District Zoomlion Manager said the Dakpa Plant, as others in the country would be at the centre of a sustainable waste management chain.

He said the chain would link up waste production through segregation to processing and propagation of best practices.

Mr Seidu said the plastics from the recycling plant would be used to produce plastic containers for free distribution to households, who would be educated on waste segregation.

He said within months of the establishment of Zoomlion’s wings in the district, the company came to grips with sanitation issues there and was now on top.

Mr Seidu said the biggest challenge for Zoomlion in the district was getting the populace to accept house-to-house lifting of waste.

He said the programme, the first in the district, was to thank God for another year of operations and maintain the esprit de corps among Zoomlion staff.

Pastor Francis Akayue, in charge of the Ave-Dakpa Pentecost Church in a sermon charged workers of Zoomlion to be diligent in their work.

He said idling was against God’s wishes for mankind as “work is life”.

Pastor Akayue said staff attitudes at work places aggregate to determine fortunes of those work places.

Good attitudes would grow a company but negative ones would collapse it.
