SSNIT, AG in tussle over George Aggudey’s case

law-and-justiceThere is a tussle between the Attorney General’s office and the Social Security and Insurance Trust (SSNIT) as to who is to prosecute in the case of George Aggudey, a former Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party.

Aggudey, also the Chief Executive Officer of Gocrest Security Company Limited was sentenced to three months imprisonment by a District Magistrate Court in Accra for defaulting on the payment of SSNIT contribution of his workers’.

He, however, sought bail with the Fast Track High Court which admitted him to bail in the sum of GHc2 million with two sureties on health grounds.

Aggudey after securing bail filed an appeal in the matter at another Fast Track High Court.

However, when the case was called at the Fast Track High Court, Mr Rexford Anthony Wiredu announced himself as representing the state while Mr Baffour Akoto represented SSNIT.

Mr Akoto stated SSNIT had been prosecuting its cases. Mr Wiredu also contended that SSNIT cannot prosecute the case rather the state.

The court presided over by Mr Justice U.P. Dery therefore adjourned the matter to January 17, 2014 for parties to sort things out.
