Police arrests three landguards, Abusuapanyin for alleged attack
The Winneba Police Patrol team has arrested three landguards for attacking some residents of Gomoa Mpota.
Briefing newsmen at Winneba, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Opoku said, the suspects whose names are being withheld for security reasons, were among 20 others who fired warning shots and destroyed property at the chief’s palace.
According to DSP Opoku, on Sunday November 10, while i Nana Oprohn Ekwam I, Omankrado and Regent of Mpota was in a meeting with clan heads, elders and other citizens to discuss about the development of the town, some unknown men wielding cutlasses, clubs and guns invaded the palace, started firing shots, and attacked the people.
He said the assailants also broke into the chief’s palace and destroyed property after firing sporadic warning shots, adding that a 17-year old boy whose name was not immediately known received severe wounds in the course of the attack.
DSP Opoku said after receiving distress calls, the Police Patrol team rushed to the scene and arrested the three suspects, while the rest escaped.
According to him, the suspects would be prosecuted after police investigations have been completed.
Meanwhile, Nana Kwesi Gurah, Abusuapanyin of Mpota, who attempted to seek bail for the three suspects, has been arrested.
