Lotto operators fined for non-payment of tax

prisonNine lotto coupon sellers in Kumasi have been sentenced to fines totaling GH¢1,800.00 by a circuit court for defaulting in their tax obligation to the Metropolitan Assembly.

Osei Kwame, Adams Acheampong, Christian Ampofo and their other colleagues whose names were only given as Owusu, Nimo, Ampofo, Bonsu, Elvis and Atta were ordered to pay GH¢200.00 each for failing to pay a monthly fee of GH¢10.00.

They would serve three months in jail if they do not pay the money.

They were convicted by the court presided over by Mr. William Boampong after they had pleaded guilty to the offence.

A bench warrant was also issued for the arrest of 10 other coupon sellers who refused to appear before the court although they had been summoned.

Mr Isaac Bassayin, the Assembly’s Prosecutor, said the convicts had for 10 months running defaulted in the payment of the monthly fee.
