President Mahama visits Black Stars players
President John Mahama was the surprise visitor at the training grounds of the Black Stars on Wednesday to motivate the team ahead of the crucial World Cup play-off with Egypt on Tuesday.
The President who arrived at the grounds while the team took paces in their last session in Accra tasked the players to remain focus for the duel ahead.
He said “Let’s focus on this match. I took time off to see you because I am the chief supporter of your team, the leader of this country and to tell you that the whole country is solidly behind you.
“We will do all we can to support you win this match. As we do our part, all of us can not go on the pitch so those who are going to represent us can expect nothing but our support.
“We have come a very long way to this point. All the matches we’ve played have finally come down to this one game; the last hurdle we have to cross to be in Brazil. So this match is more important than all the matches we have played. So let’s focus on Egypt and let’s defeat them.
The Black Stars are attempting a third successive appearance at the World Cup after spells in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010.
The winner over the two legs will book one of Africa’s five slots to the quadrennial gathering of 32 teams.
