Ghana Premier League: Hearts of Oak in bright start

Hearts of Oak started 2013/14 Premier League season on a bright note with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Edubiase United at the Ashanti-Bekwai Gyamfi Park on Sunday.

It was a match in which both sides played a splendid game, especially in the scoreless first half.

Chances both sides created were either saved by goalkeepers Benjamin Mensah for Edubiase and Tetteh Luggard for Hearts or wasted.

Back from recess, Hearts put pressure on Edubiase forcing them to play offensive.  In one of their forays, newly signed Emmanuel Hayford put Hearts ahead in the 70th minute through a goal-mouth melee.

Hayford was on target again three minutes later when his free-kick at the edge of the penalty box beat goalkeeper Mensah.

Edubiase however, made a last minute efforts for a goal, but Stephen Manu’s powerful shot in the 88th minute went off target.
