The Christian Council of Ghana has called on all Ghanaians especially victors in the election petition case to be circumspect in their celebration and avoid any form of provocation.

A statement co-signed by Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the Christian Council and Rt. Rev Francis Amenu, Chairman of the Council and copied to the Ghana News Agency, urged Ghanaians to accept the outcome of the verdict as victory for Ghana and not for any group.

“As a country, we must put the past behind us and forge ahead together as one people on our democratic journey; and let us also hold in high esteem our heritage won for us and be ready at all times to defend the good name of Ghana by being tolerant and co-exist peacefully”, it said.

The statement said as the election petition case is over, it is time for Ghanaians to collectively focus on dealing with the numerous challenges such as unemployment, maternal and child mortality, illiteracy, poverty and other developmental needs confronting the country.

The statement commended Ghanaians for their patience and endurance for the past eight months when the election petition was being heard at the Supreme Court.

“The Christian Council of Ghana wishes to commend the Justices for their resilience and energy in the administration of justice and we also wish to congratulate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for demonstrating respect for the rule of law by accepting the verdict and calling President John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him”, it said.

The statement also commended members of the media, security services and religious leaders for their efforts and commitment to the entire election petition process.

It called on all Christians across the country to use the coming Sunday to thank God for his faithfulness to Ghanaians.
