Public urged to hold Assemblies accountable

market1The public has been urged to hold district Assemblies accountable to their mandate.

“Assembly Members represent them. They should thus consult them for information on on-goings within the Assemblies, especially when it comes to funds taken from the District Assemblies Common fund for projects.”

Mr Abdulai Bukari Braimah, Director of the Rural Urban Women and Children Development Agency, said this in Ashaiman on Monday, during a policy dialogue on the District Assembly Common Fund.

He said it was unfortunate that most of the time money was taken out of the Common Fund for projects, which were not relevant to the needs of the district.

“The District Assemblies Common Fund Administrator, should see the various assemblies, and have them decide on how monies would be spent and discuss which projects are important to the community.”

He continued “we appeal to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, to prioritize deductions, and seek assembly consent, so that only relevant projects are done.”
