AMA’s millennium schools to be ready by September – Mayor

Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Tuesday said the three school projects, being implemented under the Millennium School Project, would be ready by the first week in September.

The schools, three storey-building each, would be ready to accommodate pupils for the new academic year which begins in September.

Dr Vanderpiuje said this during a tour of the school projects with Mr Julius Debrah, Greater Accra Regional Minister on Tuesday.

The three storey buildings, which have 36 classrooms each, will also have ancillary facilities, such as libraries, toilet facilities, a science laboratory and computer labs, among others.

The beneficiary schools are Dansoman 1 and 2 Basic School, Dansoman 1 Junior High School and Salleria Basic School located at Odorkor in Accra.

In all, the schools basic amenities needed for the commencement of classes or academic work, including desks are all ready.

Briefing the press, Dr Vanderpuije said each of the classrooms would have a class size of 40, adding that, each school would have a borehole, a generator and a play ground attached to it.

He expressed his appreciation to the Chinese government for sponsoring the construction of an additional classroom block to accommodate more pupils at Dansoman 1 Junior High School.

Mr Julius Debrah, expressed his appreciation to the Assembly for the initiative and urged them to extend the gesture to other sectors such as health.

He praised the Assembly for making very good use of the land by coming out with storey buildings thereby making land available for future projects.
