Minister urges Ghanaian musicians to use music to promote culture
Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Upper West Regional Minister, on Friday urged Ghanaian musicians and choristers to produce God inspired lyrics that would reflect the behaviour and culture of the society.
He said some of the music productions did not promote good behavioural change, adding that they were sometimes very insulting and unworthy to listen to.
“Music is a very powerful tool of communication which must go beyond words as we all listen to good music,” he said.
Dr Nsor said this at the 9th Biennial Conference of the Association of Methodist Choirs of the Northern Ghana Diocese of the Methodist Church.
The conference was under the theme: “The Role of the Chorister in Mobilizing Diocesan Resources.”
He appealed to the Methodist Church to join other organizations in intensifying their campaign for the sustenance of peace in the country after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the 2012 election petition.
Right Reverend MacLord Afriyie, Bishop of the Northern Ghana Diocese of the Methodist Church, told Choristers to come out with a paper containing the clear definition of a chorister in the mobilization of resources for the church.
Spicing his address with some humour, he said: “We do not need campaign managers and foot soldiers in our election. From today I have banned all the foot soldiers.”
He called for self-control, humility and understanding in all their deliberations.
