The Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) is soon to become a full-fledged university, Professor Osei Kofi Darkwa, President of the College, has said.

Speaking at the second open day of the Takoradi Campus of the College, he said, when this was achieved, the College would award its own academic qualifications.

The college is currently affiliated with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and some foreign Universities that award degrees to its students.

Prof Darkwa said it had re-positioned itself to be a West African sub-regional University, noting that it had already established a campus at Lagos, Nigeria.

He said plans were afoot to establish campuses in Gabon and the Gambia.

He said besides the main campus in Accra, the College had campuses at Takoradi, Ho, Koforidua and Kumasi.

Professor Darkwa said the College was looking forward to expanding rapidly in Takoradi.

The College runs three months hands on training programmes for Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) leavers on mobile phone and tablet computer repairs.

In addition, it organises technology camps for JHS and SHS leavers and assists communities to set up computer laboratories.

Mr. William Armah, Head of Under-Graduate Admissions at the GTUC, said technical students with City and Guilds certificate could undertake diploma courses at the College.

Mr. Kobby Okyere Darko, Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi, commended the GTUC for establishing a campus in Takoradi.

Mr. Joseph Cudjoe, MP for Effia, was among the large number of people who attended the function.
