Sunyani Municipal Assembly to build more stores

market1The Sunyani Municipal Assembly  is going into Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) to construct additional stores at the Nana Bosoma market, on build, operate and transfer (BOT) agreement.

The Assembly is currently in the process of signing agreements with seven local investors to build seven lots, three-storey each market stores in front of the Bosoma market.

Mr. Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) disclosed these in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday in Sunyani.

He said the Assembly had met the Sunyani Traditional Council to brief members about the viability of the project, and requested for their support to ensure the success of the project.

Mr. Oppong-Ababio expressed the hope that the project on its completion would increase internal revenue generation of the Assembly and also benefit the people of the municipality.

He said: “It is designed to ensure the security of lives and properties at the place because gates would be provided at all the entry points of the entire market whilst there would also be a 24-hour Police and Fire Services presence”.

The MCE said the nature and details of the BOT and total cost of the project would be known when discussions and agreements are finalized.

He said the Assembly in collaboration with the Sunyani Market Women Association and the Market Fire Prevention Taskforce were making arrangements to relocate traders occupying the place to pave way for smooth execution of the project.

Mrs. Cynthia Mensah, President of the Sunyani Market Women Association, when contacted by the GNA confirmed that the Assembly had assured them of executing the project to expand business activities in the Municipality.

The Nana Bosoma market, popularly known as “Wednesday” market is one of the largest and highly patronised weekly markets in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Traders from the Municipality and its adjoining Sunyani West District as well as those from Kumasi do business in all kinds of goods and wares including food items and household wares at the place every Wednesday.
