Takoradi GCB security man pleads not guilty to ATM stealing

Osei Owusu Baffour,29, a Security man who allegedly stole GH¢1,331,776 from the Takoradi Market Circle branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) on Friday pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.

The accused was alleged to have stolen the money from the bank by breaking into the electronic code system to gain access to the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) between October 2012 and February 2013.

The court presided over by Mr. Charles Bamfo Nimako granted him the excuse duty leave last month after his counsel, Mr. Philip Buckman produced a medical report, which was confirmed by Dr. Emmanuel Koomson of the Takoradi Hospital of Owusu’s ill-health.

The accused was arrested by the police on April 29 this year and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢2,000,000 with three sureties to be justified.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Felix Danku indicated that the police retrieved 10 vehicles and an amount of GH¢55,750 from Owusu on May 10, this year.

He told the court that Owusu, a security man with Thomas Security in Takoradi allegedly used five of the vehicles he bought with the stolen money for commercial purposes and the rest for private use.

The accused admitted to the offence when apprehended but the court had not taken his plea due to his absence from court because of his ill-health.

The case was adjourned to August 18.
